Why Eagle's Rest?
A Story that began long before the press
The eagle in our name is more than a publishing symbol.
William Allan’s parents’ home carries the Gaelic name Fois an Iolaire — Rest of the Eagle.
Years later, while William and his wife were considering the land on which they would build their own home in Australia, two eagles circled overhead.
Then, while researching Dispossessed with his sister among the ruins of Knocknafenaig on the Isle of Mull, another eagle appeared above them — hovering over the abandoned settlement as they walked through the landscape their family' ancestors had once known.
From Mull to Australia, and from family history to the stories it inspired, the eagle became an unexpected thread connecting place, memory and home.
Eagle’s Rest Press grew from that connection.
